The Keychron K2 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard (v2) has been my daily driver for the last six months. It’s a compact 75% layout that promised a lot, and mostly delivers. Here’s what I’ve learned about its strengths and weaknesses after some serious use.
What You’re Paying For
This keyboard is all about the feel of a mechanical keyboard in a smaller package. The hot-swappable switches are a huge plus; I swapped out the stock Gateron Browns for something a little heavier after a few weeks. Bluetooth connectivity is solid, and the aluminum frame feels durable. The keycaps are decent, but not amazing—more on that later. Overall, it provides a satisfying typing experience for the price.
The One Big Compromise
The biggest issue is the keycaps. They’re thin ABS plastic, and after six months, they’re already showing shine, especially on the frequently used keys. For a mid-range keyboard, I’d expect better quality keycaps. Plan on replacing them if you want to keep it looking new. Also, the height of the keyboard can be uncomfortable without a wrist rest, so factor that into your budget.
Warranty and Value
Keychron offers a standard one-year warranty, which is adequate. However, given the keycap wear, I’d recommend considering how much you value aesthetics. If you’re okay with replacing the keycaps down the line, it’s a decent value. If you want something that looks pristine for longer, be prepared to invest in a premium keycap set, which adds to the overall cost.
A solid, compact mechanical keyboard that’s worth the price if you’re willing to upgrade the keycaps.
